Masson was a talented Animalier sculptor whose works do not come up for sale often. He is known for his models of big cats and of sporting subjects including many dogs.

This large, wonderfully sculpted bronze of a walking Hunting Dog is finished in a rich dark brown patina with a contrasting dark green patina on the naturalistic base. As well as having the signature of Masson it is also marked Salon des Beaux Arts indicating that this model was exhibited at the Paris Salon and this bronze was sold during or immediately after the exhibition.
