This large whimsical portrait bust of Puss in Boots shows the humorous side of Emmanuel Fremiet.

Most portrait busts were of prominent people or patrons but Fremiet pokes fun at the style of the day by choosing a children's story character of a Cat to immortalize in bronze.

The model is very well done and lifelike, his eyes almost appear to follow you as you look at him. This is no ordinary feline but a rather "fat cat" having almost no neck.  He proudly wears his Boot emblem around his shoulders just as a pompous city official would wear a medal.

The bronze has a rich dark brown patina with sharp detail. This bronze was cast by Fremiet in his own foundry.

A very rare bronze, we have only seen one other cast of it over the years. With the popularity of the old tale of "Puss in Boots", this Puss would be a fine addition to any collection.
