Fremiet was a fine and prolific sculptor and his works showed a wide range, from small animal models to larger more important subjects and large public monuments. Here he has created a fine and rare group of a Spanish Man on a Mule paying a Guitar titled Spanish Muleteer or Muletier Espagnol.

This impressive bronze is full of character and shows superb details in the cast. The fancy clothes of the man and the trappings of the Mule are expertly modeled. The Muleteer is lost in the music as he sings and plays his Guitar while his Mule patiently stands still.

A very rare model that was cast in small numbers in the mid 19th century, this is a fine cast most likely done by the bronze founder Charles More who cast many of earlier Fremiet's bronzes. The bronze is signed on the base and has a rich dark brown patina. A wonderful model.
