Arthur Putnam was known for his fine models of American big cats such as Mountain Lions, Jaguars, and the Lynx or Bobcat. He showed these wild cats as they rested or as they hunted their prey.

This rare bronze is of a Lynx as he sits and looks around. The Lynx or Bobcat is well modeled in Putnam's typical Impressionistic style, loosely sculpted but accurately depicting the character and nature of the animal.

The bronze was cast by Putnam in his own foundry in about 1909, it is a fine lost wax cast with a very dark almost black patina. The edge of the base has "COPYRIGHT APPLIED FOR" stamped on it and it is signed "APutnam" in an oval as is correct for his works.

A wonderful and rare bronze by one of the best of the American Animalier sculptors.
