Sculptor - Alfred Barye
Title - Camel
Sand Cast Bronze Atelier Louis Antoine Barye Circa 1860 5 1/4" height by 6" length (13.5 cm by 15.2 cm)
Here is a fine small bronze of a standing Dromedary Camel. This is a rare model done by Alfred Barye in the mid 19th century.
The Dromedary Camel was from the desert sands of Arabia and any Camel would have been a rare and exotic animal in the 19th century. Alfred Barye's father sculpted several different versions of Camels, but his son only created this one Camel sculpture.
The model is quite rare and it was cast in Antoine Louis Barye's own foundry where his son Alfred worked. It has sharp details and a wonderful multi color patina in shades of dark green with a little brown and black.
