Arson was a master at sculpting birds and his work rivaled Moigniez and Pautrot. From large Pheasants to small song birds, Arson's birds show fine detail and mimic nature closely.

This bronze shows a Golden Pheasant curiously peering down at a small insect on the base. Pheasants were quite popular in 19th century sculptures and Arson has added a touch of whimsy to his subject as it looks at the bug it is about to eat.

Many of Arson's sculptures were done in white metal but this one is definitely bronze with a soft golden brown patina. It is mounted on the original red rouge marble base which has been repaired. The bronze Pheasant is in excellent condition with no repairs. A well done bird sculpture by a good 19th century Animalier sculptor.
