Pautrot was well known for his many sculptures of birds in their natural habitat. Here he has caught a small Song Bird or Sparrow as it rests on an oak branch. The little Bird is alert watching for a bug for his next meal and keeping an eye out for danger. The life of a bird in nature is short and full of predators.

This small bronze is superbly detailed and the little Bird is ready to fly off at a moments notice. The oak branch is well modeled and this makes a nice little portrait of life in the wild. The bronze has a good mid brown patina with a bit of a copper color to it. A very nice 19th century bronze and a rare model.
