Hunting dogs were a popular subject in the 19th century and Moigniez created some superb portraits of these dogs. This fine large bronze shows a Setter frozen in movement with his foreleg raised and his nose up scenting a game bird. The dog's muscles and long coat are finely detailed and Moigniez has even textured the end of the Setter's nose.

Unfortunately this Setter model has been copied many times over the years and some of the copies are 60 to 70 years old so one must be careful where one purchases this bronze.

Our bronze is one of the finest mid 19th century casts that we have seen in over 30 years. It is truly an exceptional Moigniez bronze and was cast in his own foundry. The patina is a rich reddish brown and the bronze is very light weight for its size.

One of his best works and a beautiful large bronze that would grace any home or collection.
