Title - Bird in Flight

Sand Cast Bronze

 Circa 1860

8 7/8" height by 6 1/2" length
(22.5 cm by 16.5 cm)

Pautrot was surely the finest sculptor of birds in his day and his many birds show an endless variety. Here we have a Bird getting ready to take flight from a branch. The wings are outspread and he is almost airborne. No other sculptor created such lifelike portraits of birds in all phases of their lives. From nesting and raising chicks to catching bugs and feeding, and frozen in flight, Pautrot's bird bronzes are superb renditions of avian life. This details bronze has a gold gilt patina and sits well on it's round foliate base.
