Sculptor - Pierre Jules Mene

Title - Chien King Charles

Sand Cast Bronze
Atelier Pierre Jules Mene
 Circa 1846

3 1/2" height by 5 7/8" length
(9 cm by 15 cm)

Mene was well known for his groups of Two Whippets at play, and a King Charles Spaniel playing with a Whippet or Italian Greyhound. This rare small bronze depicts just the King Charles Spaniel from the group titled "Levrier a L Eventail et Chien King Charles". The small dog is shown on a base patterned to represent an Oriental carpet, the Spaniel is posed in play with one paw raised. This is a fine early cast from Mene's own foundry, it is well detailed with a rich brown black patina. A fine cabinet bronze for the collector of dogs or for a King Charles enthusiast.
