Alfred Barye's sculptures rarely showed domestic farmyard animals and this is a rare miniature bronze of a sleeping Lamb. Lambs were symbolic of innocence in Victorian times and figures of sleeping lambs often were shown with children in 19th century artwork. This fine miniature Lamb has a golden brown patina and is mounted on the original 1" thick by 3 3/4" long marble base. A rare model by Antoine Louis Barye's son who was a fine sculptor in his own right.
