Arthur Waagen must have been very fond of Whippets and Greyhounds since he did many sculptures of them. He portrayed them as playful pets, and this bronze shows a Whippet or Greyhound, or possibly an Italian Greyhound, looking in surprise at a Butterfly on a branch at her feet. The dog is a female which is unusual as most art is of male dogs.

She has her paw raised and there is a look of distain on her face as she gazes at the insect. A charming group, and one that would be enjoyed by any sight hound enthusiast. The bronze is very detailed and was cast by the Leblanc Freres foundry, it is finished in a light brown patina.
