Title - Le Faisan
Sand Cast Bronze F. Barbedienne Fondeur Circa 1860 4 3/4" height by 8 1/2" length (12.5 cm by 21.5 cm)
Barye did several models of Pheasants in his career and they were quite popular. Hunting was a well known sport and sculptures of game birds were desirable for one's home in the mid 1800s. Pheasants and other game birds were often created as pairs for dining room decoration. The Walking Pheasant was cast by Barbedienne, it has the original gilt patina and it is mounted on it's original rouge marble base with a gilt bronze rim.
