Moigniez was best known for his sculptures of birds but his dog sculptures are very finely modeled and equal Mene's best dog subjects. This is a very rare bronze of a playful King Charles Spaniel which has captured a badminton shuttlecock and chewed it up, a few feathers rest between the dog's legs. The naughty pup is standing guard over its prize to prevent its return to the game.

This bronze sculpture is expertly detailed as it was done during the height of the artist's career. You can see all the hair details in the dog's coat and the shuttlecock is also well detailed. This fine mid 19th century bronze was cast in Moigniez's own foundry and is finished in a rich red brown patina.
