This is one of the first bronzes modeled by Kemeys while he was a student in Paris. It is titled in the sculpture's base "Piron et la Mouche" (Piron and the fly) and it is dated 1878.  Kemeys was only in Paris for two years to study sculpture before returning to the United States. Very few casts of his early Paris works were made and this wonderful bronze is finished in a rich brown patina. The animation and life that Kemeys gives to this "street dog" chasing a fly that has landed on his back shows the ability of this very famous American sculptor.
