Sculptor - Malvina Hoffman

Title - Matador

Sand Cast Bronze

 Circa 1950

4 3/8" tall on 2" black wood base
(11 cm on 5 cm tall base)

Malvina Hoffman did several models of Matadors and Bulls in the early 1950s. This is one of the small models from that series. The Matador twirls his cape showing the grace and agility needed to be a bull fighter.

Hoffman was influenced by Rodin, whom she studied under, and she made many small maquettes for her larger sculptures. This is a rare model since it was a study for a larger work. The Matador is finished in a rich red brown patina and is mounted on the original 2" tall black ebonized wood base.
